One of the oldest neighborhoods in North Tacoma, the North Slope is a designated historic district, with many homes on the national register. Due to its proximity to downtown and its late 19th century layout, the area was built for walkability. Beloved local establishments like Hanks Bar and Grill and the Parkway Tavern are a few minutes away from your front porch. And with planned light rail just around the corner, your mobility - and equity - has nowhere to go but up.

Historic District
The zoning in this neighborhood permanently restricts the density, meaning only single family homes are allowed, with a few exceptions. Additionally, homes in the area are required to maintain period-specific materials on the exterior (so no vinyl windows or Hardiplank siding). This can be attractive for people who care about living in an area with similar vintage character, but may not be the best fit for people looking for more modern building possibilities.
Condo Selection
That said, there are a lot of condominiums, townhouses, and multifamily buildings whose land use was grandfathered in. Condos in the area are relatively affordable for the area, and can be great starter homes for those who want to live in an urban-yet-single-family environment.
Light Rail
Light rail to Hilltop, Downtown Tacoma, and the Stadium District is coming in 2022! Hop on board and take the train to McMenamin's for a drink, or just commute to Seattle and disregard your car for most of the week.
